Hue thin cakes (Banh beo Hue)

Those who have ever come to visit Hue, one of the world heritages, can not forget a romantic and poetic ancient capital with gentle and elegant girls in traditional ao dai. And one more thing that makes people, both tourists and natives can not help remembering Hue and always desire to return this old capital is Hue thin cakes, a special dish of Hue people.

Thin cakes are made of sweet rice in the shape of duckweed. In fact, making this kind of cake is not complicated. Rice must be ground in to fine powder. Then the cook steeps this powder in water in a few minutes to turn it into a moderately viscid and liquid powder. At the third step, the liquid will be put in small cups and then on gridiron for steaming.

To serve it, you should put some species in cakes such as pounded shrimp, some cooking oil. The sauce for this kind of cake is very important. It is made of fresh shrimp so it is both sweet and fat. And you should enjoy thin cakes with some chilly.

Come to Hue, you will find the thin cake is very familiar and popular with people of this ancient Hue capital. Every afternoon, from 3-5p.m, here and there, there appear some gentle girls and women in ao dai strolling in streets with bamboo baskets full of thin cakes for sale. Hue people like this cake very much. They are used to enjoying it in sub-meals. With only 1000 dong, you can appreciate a delicious plate of thin cakes.

Thin cakes are also served in "King's meals" for tourists and in "royal ones" for beloved guests.

Those who have chances of visiting Hue desire to enjoy the flavour of thin cakes.
