Cham cuisine to be featured in a book

(Cinet)- The Phuong Nam Publishing House and Ho Chi Minh City Arts and Literature Publishing House introduced a book on the cuisine of the Cham people by young poet Kieu Maily in HCM City.

The Cham people are an ethnic minority group who mostly live in Phan Thiet City , An Giang Province and HCM City. They are remnants of the Kingdom of Champa which existed from the 7th to the 15th century.

A 184 page book, Doc Dao Am Thuc Cham (Unique Cham Cuisine) introduces Cham culinary techniques from older to younger generations for many years.

A traditional meal is a bowl of steamed rice eaten with a sauce containing bits of fish, fowl, or meat, eggs, vegetables, and spices such as onions, chilies, garlic, mint, ginger, or lemon grass. Cham's popular dishes such as muthin ritong (rice served with fish), lithei jrau (rice mixed with meat and vegetables), abu mutham (gruel served with fish and traditional vegetables), kari cam murong (curry served with chicken or beef) and ruou (liquid made from rice), are highlighted in the book.

The book includes 106 colour photos which display 96 different dishes.
