(Cinet)- The nine-day Festival Hue, from April 12-20, was a big feast of art and music with a participation of 2,600 artists and performers, including 595 foreign ones, doing their best to entertain visitors.
Addressing a press briefing in Hue city, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, the chief of the festival’s organising board and Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue People’s Committee, Ngo Hoa, said 66 art troupes from 37 countries staged 170 performances at 15 venues in Hue city and 10 other sites in the province. “A participation of the art troupes helped turn Hue Festival into a major cultural event at national and international level, while highlighting the characteristics of the ancient imperial city”, he saidThe festive atmosphere with music, lights, crowds and sounds seen and heard in almost every corner of the city. Performances by Vietnamese and international art troupes were also held in several remote and mountainous districts, spreading the atmosphere in a wider area.
For those attending the festival, they had the opportunity to taste so many unique foods at the same time in the city. This was especially true due to bringing together worldwide art troupes, Asian dancers and Asian food in one place. It is expected to take time before the organisers announce the total expenses and revenues taken in during the festival, as well as total number of visitors to the shows. These figures will help to determine the success of the festival.
The biennial festival, which took place from April 12-20, attracted the participation of approximately 2.4 million people, entertaining them with a colourful and bustling atmosphere that resulted from the nearly 100 performances put on by 66 artist delegations from 38 countries.
About 230,000 tourists stayed in hotels, representing a 25% increase over the 2012 event. 100,000 of these were foreign tourists from 115 countries and territories around the world.
A wide range of activities were held during the nine-day festival, including the 6th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers responsible for Culture and Arts (AMCA 6), the International Dance Festival, the 2014 International Food Festival, the Ao Dai Festival and the 'Dem Phuong Dong' (Orient Night) fashion show, among others.
