(Cinet)- Ninh Binh is ready for picking up about 10,000 participants, including 1,500 guests from 100 countries and 8,500 local Buddhists and visitors at Bai Dinh Temple in the northern province of Ninh Binh from May 7-11.

The event will focus activities on Buddhist responses to sustainable development and social change, global warming and environmental protection, healthy living, peace-building and post-conflict recovery, and Buddhist education and university level curriculum.

The festival themed "Buddhist Perspective towards Achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals” is expected to attract around 15,000 domestic and foreign delegates and Buddhist followers, including world leaders, ambassadors and Buddhist dignitaries and scholars.

A wide range of activities will take place, such as international seminars, a Buddhist cultural fair and exhibition, international art exchange, firework displays, and Buddhist preaching during the festival.

The event will be an international event contributing to the role of Vietnamese Buddhism in international integration and promoting the country's culture and people," said Nhieu.

This is the second time Vietnam has hosted the event. In 2008, the fifth Vesak celebration was organised in Hanoi with attendants from over 600 Buddhist delegations from around the world.

Hosted by Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), the event is expected to be an excellent opportunity for Vietnam to promote its land, people and culture, especially the continuous development of Vietnamese Buddhism over the past two thousand years
