In 2008: Promoting activities and programs to develop and improve ethnic minorities’ cultural life

(Cinet)- In Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Huynh Vinh Ai chaired a meeting on carrying out a work plan for the 2008 year and developing functions and tasks of Department of National Culture.

As discussed and agreed on draft contents, Deputy Minister, Huynh Vinh Ai has ordered Department of National Culture to acquire and regulating the draft, contributing to complete and submit to Leadership of the Ministry as early as possible.

According to the 2008 work plan of Department of National Culture, many activities and programs to develop and improve ethnic minorities’ cultural life will be continuously promoted. Several key documents and projections completed and submitted to Prime Minister are: “Projection on strengthening information and propaganda works, the Party’s guidelines and the State’s legal policies in the area of ethnic minorities “, “Project on preserving, promoting traditional culture and building cultural life of 16 ethnic minorities which have thinly scattered population with the maximum of only 5 thousand people”, “Instructions of the Government on intensifying cultural work in close association with developing tourism in the area of ethnic minorities and in the mountainous region”.

Moreover, documents and projections submitted to Leadership of the Ministry for signature and issuance include: Action program on “Promoting an building cultural life, cultural exchange in the border area until 2010 and the upcoming years”; Projection on “Eliminating backward customs of ethnic minorities which have thinly scattered population with the maximum of only 5 thousand people in the Northern mountainous area”; Instructions of the Government on using ethnic minorities’ voice and writing in culture and information activities; Guiding preservation, developing ethnic minorities’ traditional festivals & villages and tourism….

A large number of activities and programs to develop and improve ethnic minorities’ cultural life will be also implemented in this year, for example conference on culture and information work in the border area; workshop on “Solutions for preserving, promoting traditional handicraft and developing tourism to eradicate hunger and alleviate poverty for ethnic minorities in the current stage”; The 3^rd festival day of Khmer South Vietnam Culture and Sports in Can Tho…
