Soc Trang is located in the Mekong River Plains and is surrounded by Bac Lieu, Can Tho, and Tra Vinh provinces. The main ethnic communities living in Soc Trang are Kinh, Khmer (28%), and Hoa (8%).

The Vietnamese settlers corrupted it into “Soc-Kha-Lang” and eventually “Soc Trang”.

Viet (Kinh), Khmer, Hoa ethnic groups live together here. The province has 89 pagodas of Khmer group, 47 pagodas of Hoa people. Ma Toc (Bat), Khleang, Chruitim Chas, Chen Kieu, and Buu Son Tu (Set) are famous pagodas.

The traditional Ngo boat (wooden boat carved on both bow and stern) race is the highlight of the day next to the full moon night.
