Noi Le village, An Vien commune, Tien Le district is characterised with crowed population in a small area; there are nearly 500 households with more than 2,000 inhabitants but only 86 ha of agricultural land in the village.
There are many professions in Noi Le but the two most developed are boat weaving and waterway transport. Up to 1/3 of the total number of households with 350 labourers participate in the boat weaving sector, making and selling about 7,000 boats each year, of which 4000 are fishing-net boats and 3000 are transport boats; the turnover is more than VND 700 million annually. The average income per capita is about VND 150,000 – 200,000 per month. Current and future demands of this product are shrinking due to the market reduction; hence, the boat weaving development potential is not feasible.
