Quang Nam: Inaugurating statue of Vietnamese heroic mother

(Cinet)-Quang Nam province officially set the Vietnamese Heroic Mother statue for 40th anniversary of Quang Nam Liberation Day(1975 -2015) on the evening of March 24.

The statue resembled "Heroic Mother" Nguyen Thi Thu, who was from Dien Thang Commune, Dien Ban District, in the province and whose 11 children and grandchildren all died in Vietnam's liberation fight.The statue, which stands 18.6m high and is 120m wide at its base, is the biggest statue of its kind built in Vietnam.

Covering 15 hectares in Cam mountain, Tam Phu commune the statue was constructed seven years ago, being adapted from Mother Nguyen Thi Thu (1904 -2010) from Dien Thang commune, Dien Ban district in Quang Nam province, whose 11 descendants are war martyrs. The statue was built in Nui Cam.

On behalf of the State and Party's leaders, Politburo member Le Hong Anh hailed the province's achievements after 40 years of liberation and asked them to focus on building strong party organizations, firmly promoting the block of great national unity, improving local residents' living standards, enhancing administrative reform to achieve the goal of a strong country with rich people and a democratic, equitable and civilised society.

In front of the statue are eight pillars carved with images of Vietnamese mothers from the north, central region and the south, and young female volunteers who devoted their youth to the country.

The granite statue, adapted from a sketch by painter Dinh Gia Thang and executed by architect Nguyen Luan, was built to pay tribute to Vietnamese heroic mothers’ contributions to the nation.

The inauguration of the Vietnamese Heroic Mother Statue was followed by an art performance, themed "The legend of mother," held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with the provincial People's Committee, with the participations of the central and local art troupes.
