Ultima Oslo will award Norwegian scholarships to Vietnamese conservatory students, sponsor contemporary music festivals, and build international standard recording studios for traditional music, the Scandinavian music council announced at a press conference.

The council wanted to support local musicians and traditional music on the world stage, the project director Geir Johnson said.

The three year project called Transposition, ending in December 2009, assisted Vietnamese conservatories and orchestras with instruments, materials, education and management and promoted local music to the world.

The project had the cooperation of Vietnam’s leading music institutions like Hanoi Conservatory of Music, Hanoi Symphony Orchestra, Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, Ho Chi Minh City Opera and Symphony Orchestra.
