Optimistic Signs from Tourism

(Cinet)- In 2006-2007, a series of international events had effects on the political prestige, promoting the country’s image to a higher level: the APEC Summit and the ASEAN Summit were held in Vietnam; becaming the 150th member of WTO; stable politics, robust economic growth, which brings about the name “The new Dragon” to the country and is considered a dynamic economy on a regional and international scale. This is a new opportunity for the Tourism Industry of Vietnam.

Statistics from Tourism has shown: in the first 7 months of 2007, Vietnam received 2.46 million international visitors (16,2% growth in comparison with the time last year). Many of the visitors came from the countries and territories who have a high expenditure such as: The USA, Japan, France, Korea, China and most of them have good impressions of a peaceful Vietnam with its attractive natural beauty and friendly humane people.

In 2007, according to the estimation of the Tourism Industry, Vietnam will receive about 4.4 million international visitors, 19-20 million local tourists, the total turn-over will be 56000 billion.

To achieve this target, in the past, the government has modify inadequacies of the macro policies which have direct influences on the industry; this creates many favourable conditions for the foreign visitors coming to Vietnam.

The Tourism Industry focused on the policies encouraging the infrastructure building (in the first 6 months of 2007, 17 FDI projects have been licensed for the hotel sector, with the total investment capital of 776.292 million USD). Besides, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) has concentrated on the human resource perfection and development up to 2020, standardizing the occupation training schools, socializing the training business, pushing up the Vietnamese cultural and historical knowledge training as well as issuing working permits for foreigners who are capable of speaking rare foreign languages to perform guide services in Vietnam.
