Vietnamese children welcome two more books from Swedish author

Two books “Pippi Longstocking” and “Mio, my son” written by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren have been translated into Vietnamese and introduced to Vietnamese children to mark the 100th birth anniversary of the author (1907-2007).

Swedish author Astrid Lindgren was famous for many of her epic books for children, including “Ronia, the robber’s daughter”, the Emil series, the Karlsson-on-the-roof series, The Brother’s Lion heart, “Mio, my son” and “Pippi Longstocking”.

The Swedish children’s book author received many well-known awards, including the Hans Christian Andersen order in 1958, the Karen Blixen prize from the Danish Academy, the Lev Tolstoy prize from Russia, the Gabriela Mistral prize from Chile and the Selma Lagerlof prize from Sweden.

Astrid Lindgren was also an activist for social advancement. She initiated a new act to protect animals and fought tirelessly for the vulnerable and the gullible of the world. In Sweden, she was honoured as a symbol of peace.

To mark her 60^th birth anniversary in 1967, Raben&Sjogren publishing house set up the “Astrid Lindgren” prize to honour her life, her career as well as inspiring the love for books from children. In 2002, the Swedish government initiated the prize “In memory of Astrid Lindgren”.

The celebration of the 100^th birth anniversary of the Swedish author and the launch of the two books is to be held on November 14 at the Swedish embassy in Hanoi. Two books “Pippi Longstocking” and “Mio, my son” are published by Nha Nam Publishing and Communications Company in cooperation with the Publishing House of the Writers’ Association
