“Vietnam Antique Fine Arts- A Stage of Research” is the name of an exhibition opened on January 21 at the Hanoi Fine Arts University which aims to introduce the unique value of Vietnam’s antique fine arts to the public.

The exhibition is also to mark the 45th anniversary of the Institute of Fine Arts of the Hanoi Fine Arts University.

This is the first exhibition of a systematic character on Vietnamese ancient fine arts on a 1,000 square metre area, showcasing 400 documents, including those copies rubbed from stone tablets and ancient architectural drawings of the Institute of Fine Arts and 45 reproductions from the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts.

The exhibition consists of seven parts with seven artistic styles limited to the Vietnamese feudalistic dynasties, from the Ly Dynasty (11th-12th centuries) to Nguyen Dynasty ((19th century – 1945).

Those vast amounts of items and documents on Vietnamese antique fine arts are arranged diachronically in order to help the viewers better understand part of the panorama of the Vietnamese fine art’s history.

Through the exhibition, viewers can witness the creativity of the ancestors and discover the connection between each Vietnamese commune or village and religious architectural works where tangible and intangible cultural activities happened, depicting the spiritual life of each person and the whole community.

Each of those architectural works bore fine art heritage. A statue not merely served for worshipping or an architectural building was not simply sued to live in. Decorations and patterns engraved in those statues or architectural works showed the imprint of the period.

The exhibition runs until February 17 at 42 Yet Kieu street, Hanoi.
