The Vietnam Publishing Association has awarded three Golden Prizes for the Best Book Content and five Golden Prizes for the Best Book Layout at the third Vietnam Book Award Ceremony held this morning in Van Ho Exhibition Hall in Hanoi.
Mau Thuong Ngan or The Mountain Goddess won the Best Layout Book Tu Dien Chu Nom (Nom-Vietnamese Dictionary), Van Hoa Lang Mien Nui Trung Bo Viet Nam (Mountainous Villages’ Culture in Vietnam’s Central Region) and Lich Su Chinh Phu Viet Nam (The history of Vietnamese Government 1945 – 2005) won golden prizes for the Best Content Books. There are 27 other books receiving silver, bronze and consolation prizes in this category.
Meanwhile, in the Best Book Layout category, golden prizes went to Nguoi Dao o Viet Nam (Dao People in Vietnam), Mau Thuong Ngan (The Mountain Goddess), Thap Co Champa (Champa Ancient Towers), Tu Thuc Gap Tien (Tu Thuc Met a Fairy) and Lang Nghe Thu Cong My Nghe Mien Bac (Handicraft Villages in Northern Vietnam). 38 books received different prizes in this category.
According to Nguyen Kiem, head of the Vietnam’s Publishing Association, although the number of entries in this award is not any higher than previous years, there has been a signficiant improvement in content quality and lay out. There are also clear improvement in printing and paper quality.
The awarded books are selected through 2 rounds of selection. The third Vietnam Book Award was launched in March, and has received 330 books from 34 Publishing Houses.
