French animated films come to HCMC

The annual tradition of screening new, French animated films will continue this year in Ho Chi Minh City with the cooperation of the International Animated Film Festival, “Annecy.”

The festival is the largest of its kind in Europe and showcases a wide range of animated features.

This year’s screening will include the latest films selected for the 2008 Annecy along with the award-winning 2003 hit, “The Triplets of Belleville.”

The 80-minute Triplets of Belleville – directed by Sylvain Chomet – tells the satirical story of a woman named Madame Souza who gives her nephew a bicycle which he uses to train for the Tour de France.

He and two others are subsequently captured by the mafia and Madame Souza with three other women, “the triplets” set out to rescue her nephew.

An 80-minute film about the 2008 Annecy will be shown at 7 p.m. on February 26 and at 3 p.m. on March 1.

The Triplets of Belleville will show at 7 p.m. on February 19 and at 3 p.m. on February 23.

All films will be shown in French with Vietnamese subtitles at the Institute of Cultural Exchange with France (IDECAF) at 28 Le Thanh Ton Street, District 1, HCMC.

Tickets are VND6,000 ($0.37) each.
