The Vietnam Culture Development Society (VCDS) is providing around 15,000 English textbooks and general publications of various subjects to Vietnamese educational institutions.
The book presentation ceremony was held at the Hanoi National Library on February 27.
According to Doctor Le Phuoc Hung, director of the VCDS, a New York based non-profit organisations, books are varied in categories, ranging from economics and development, banking system, English dictionary, geography, chemistry to American sociology, literature, education, health and environment and levels, from the college, higher education to books for children of age from 3-15 years of age.
“We hope that the diversity of books will help to increase the quantity of people accessing to this useful information source,” said Doctor Hung.
Chairman of the North Universities Library Union Nguyen Huy Chuong said that this was a significant event as Vietnamese education is now making a strong movement, thus, it is now in great need of updated publications.
“This will help Vietnamese students have more opportunities to assess update information on the world as well as connect Vietnamese students with students from other parts of the world by helping them hone their English skill, ” he stressed.
These books will be delivered to the National University, Foreign Trade University, and Institute for International Relations, Hanoi Economic University, Hanoi Architecture University, Da Lat University, Amsterdam High School and others.
Books and journals were donated from prominent publishers in the US and Great Britain such as McGraw-Hill, Random House, Springer, W.H. Freeman and Company, Palgrave Macmillan and American Universities such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University, Princeton University, St. John’s University and the New School for Social Research.
The Petro Vietnam Finance Communication Company and the US Embassy has also given sponsor and assistance to the shipping of the books.
VCDS was established by a group of Vietnamese students in the US with the aim at promoting English literacy in Vietnam.
