Thirty coloured woodcuts by Nguyen Tuong Linh and ten oil paintings by Mai San are now on display at Gallery 16 Ngo Quyen street, Hanoi.
The 61 year old painter Nguyen Tuong Linh, who was an art teacher at high schools for many years, follows the method of illustration, description and narration to highlight the theme of the paintings.
His works feature simple subjects of the daily life such as ‘Cho Que’ (Rural Market), ‘Lang Hoa Ngoc Ha’ (Ngoc Ha Flower Village) and ‘Ruoc Den’ (Lantern Parade).
Meanwhile, the ethnic minority painter Mai San, who was born in 1947, has a great passion for the beauty of mountain landscapes with rivers, cooking fires and houses on stilts of the north-western region.
Her style is marked with spots of bright colours and course brush strokes, while maintaining natural delicacy and beauty.
Art critic Tran Thuc held that the exhibition is a simple artistic conversation, which although not groundbreaking, it impresses audiences with the young, fresh, sincere and worth-to-remember memories of all who have experienced childhood, their teenage life, young love and life. Viewers all can recognise themselves when looking at these two artists’ artworks.
The exhibition opened yesterday and lasts until March 11.
