About Kien Giang

(Cinet)- Located in the southwest Vietnam and belonging to the Mekong River Delta, Kien Giang has a mainland territory and many islands. It is the mixture of many cultural regions throughout the country, which creats diverse cultural identities.
Kien Giang borders Campuchia in the North, Ca Mau and Bac Lieu provincies in the South, An Giang and Hau Giang provincies in the East and southeast, Thailand in the West . The province covers an area of 6.348,5 square kilometres, and, as of 2012, its population was 1.726.200 peoples.

Cultural Heritage
At the crossroads of many cultural regions of the country, the cultural identity of Kien Giang got so rich, diverse and was expressed through the fields of literature, arts, cuisines, festivals , traditional villages, etc.
According to statistics of the province, it has 49 monuments, of which are prominent such as Tam Bao Temple, Hon Dat revolutionary historical relics, U Minh Thuong revolutionary base, Phu Quoc prison, Thien Hau Temple, Quan Thanh De Temple.
Every year the province takes place many festivals. The most impressive ones are the festival's national hero Nguyen Trung Truc in lunar August. In Kien Giang, there are unique traditional villages like knitted cushions, Ta Nien weaving mat, Hon Dat fashioned pot, crafts and fine arts by tortoise, tea tables in Ha Tien.

Performing Arts
The type of outstanding performing arts in Kien Giang can be mentioned as Don ca tai tu (dilettante singing and music performance). Because of a large number of Cham people, Kien Giang has also many folk songs as well as the unique art forms of Cham culture (Robam Khmer – an unique art in Kien Giang).
Destination
Kien Giang has many famous historical sites and landmarks such as Hon Chong, Hon Trem, Father and Son Isle, Mo So Mountain, Mui Nai Beach, Thach Dong, Lang Mac Cuu memorial monument, Dong Ho, Hon Dat, U Minh Forest, Phu Quoc Island...To effectively exploit the potentials of tourism, Kien Giang has built four key tourist areas including Phu Quoc, Ha Tien - Kien Luong, Rach Gia City and its surroundings, U Minh Thuong.
Food culture in Kien Giang is also very rich, varied with hundreds of dishes including specialties like barracuda fish, Phu Quoc fish sauce, Ha Tien blood cockle, Kien Giang fish noodles, etc.
