Always leaded to the top in developing economy as well as attracting the investment, the province played a crucial role in area’s economy and sociality.
Ba Ria - Vung Tau covers an area of 1,989.5 square kilometers, it is divided into seven districts, including 2 separate municipalities Ba Ria and Vung Tau and Con Dao National Park. The demographics in 2009 show that the population of the province boasted over one million people and the province is a home to 28 ethnic groups. While the Vietnamese is the largest group, the ethnic Chinese and the Cho Ro are boasted in the second and the third, following by Khmer, Tay, Nung, Muong, Thai, Xo Dang, Ha Nhi, Chu Ru, Co Lao…

There aren’t many cultural monuments in Ba Ria - Vung Tau but three annual festivals take place here, including: Dinh Co festival, Nghing Ong festival, Dinh than Thang Festival and The Blessed Virgin Mary great festival

Dinh Co Festival is operated from 10 to 12 February in Lunar calendar

While Dinh Co Festival is operated from 10 to 12 February in Lunar calendar, Nghinh Ong festival takes place in 16, 17, 18 August in Lunar calendar. Especially, many games and programs in the frame of the Dinh Co Festival happened in the whole day and night. The specific characteristic in the Dinh Co festival is flower garlands and coloured lanterns night festival, drum and gong sound, traditional boat race as well as “ba trao” singings. Ba Ria -Vung Tau attracted visitors by 10 temples to Whale, hence, Nghing Ong festival played an important role in resident’s cultural life. Dinh than Thang festival is handled in 4 days from 17 February in Lunar calendar. The Blessed Virgin Mary great festival started from the first day of January operated by the Episcopate and attracted over ten thousands clergy’s men attending. Besides, Ba Ria- Vung Tau is particularly well known by beautiful beach with many diversity and modern facilities.

Ba Ria - Vung Tau is also one of the leading direct foreign investment acttraction of Viet Nam, especially tourist projects. In the past, there were some big projects licensed and to be licensed soon: Sai Gon Atlantis Resort (capitalized USD 300 millions), Nghinh Phong Aquarium and Bau Trung entertainment park (capitalized USD 500 millions), Xuyen Moc safari (capitalized USD 200 millions). Generally, the average growth rate in the period of time 2006 – 2010 is 17.78 percent. In there, Industry – Construct occupied 64.3 percent, Commerce - Service boasted 31.2 percent and Agriculture made up only 4.5 percent in total.
