Working status of the relevant MCST’s press agencies quartered II/2008

(Cinet)- In the 2nd quarter 2008, the press in general and MCST’s press agencies in particular have to face up with fierce competition. The constant increase of paper price and printing fee strongly influences to divisions’ activities.

However, basically ministry’s press agencies still manage to operate stably within the law framework, follow information orientation, timely serve country’s, ministry’s and branch’s political missions, respond the reader’s needs and timely, fully, accurately reflect information on political and cultural activities through out the country.

Some newspapers and magazines have carried out correcting the publishing and other working fields in the newspaper offices; direct offices and sections to follow the publishing process, focus on improving quality, content and press design; open more column pages, new, attractive  columns on culture, sport and family… to respond the requirement of branch’s propaganda, popularization in the integration situation. Vietnam Sport newspaper increases installments and issues daily newspapers in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city and Can Tho from 1 June 2008.

After the shift-handover meeting on April 2008, divisions deployed carrying out the ministry leadership’s direction. Particularly, the Vietnam Sport newspaper set up function, task, right and framework of organization to submit the leadership of General Department of Sports and Gymnastics. The newspaper is also deploying project of establish a culture, sport and tourism media joint-stock company, expectedly in August 2008 it will be submitted to ministry leadership and leadership of General Department of Sports and Gymnastics. The sport newspaper submitted a project of issuing daily newspaper and is deploying the 1^st step of establishing a project building group culture, sport and tourism media corporation. Center of Information and technology completed project “invest equipments to ensure the branch’s good connection to government electronic gate as well as submit the project explanation report on July 1^st, 2008. Arts and photography special issue is proposing to upgrade the special issue into arts and photography magazine.

Though some tasks were done, in general the press agencies’ implementation of ministry leadership’s direction in the April shift-handover meeting has not got much progress. During last time, press has faced up with many obstacles, for example, because of mergence some divisions’ organization systems are cumbersome while some others lack of workforce: staff, general editor, assistant general editor or pluralism staff. Most of press agencies face up with lacking of offices, equipments or old, out-of-date equipments. Now some divisions are applying the 5-6-year ago royalties so they can not motivate and attract excellent reporters. All the obstacles strongly influence to the qualities as well as progress of work.

From the current situation, press offices proposed and asked for ministry leadership’s direction, create good conditions on mechanism so that newspapers and magazines are active in arranging workforce, reporters, and editors in such a quick, effective way; support the idea of establishing board of project “culture, sport and tourism media corporation”, establish MCST reporter executive committee.
