(Cinet)- “Nem ran” (fried spring roll) from Vietnam is one of top 10 dishes in the world has been listed on the US Cable News Network (CNN).
According to CNN, local cuisine is as important as the destination itself for travelling foodies when planning a trip.
The website describes the Vietnamese food as “a crispy shell with a soft veggie and meat filling dunked in a tangy sauce”. It also said that the spectrum of Vietnamese dishes is surprisingly refined and diverse, adding that each city, even each village, has its own list of unique local specialities. To highlight the most popular culinary hotspots, CNN asked readers to vote for their favourite destination in an open Facebook poll.
The results revealed heavy Asian preferences; with the exception of Italy and Greece, every place on the list is in Asia, including Taiwan (China), the Philippines, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong (China), India and Vietnam.
“Nem ran” (fried spring roll) from Vietnam is a popular dish in Vietnamese cuisine and usually served as an appetizer in Europe and North America, where there are large Vietnamese communities. It is ground meat, usually pork, wrapped in rice paper and deep-fried.

There is a dish that can be served all year round, and present in almost every menu of Vietnamese restaurant abroad: A dish that is so famous that many locals of Vietnam assume it as their own specialty and give it their own name such as: “Nem Ran” by northerners and “Cha Gio” by southerners. To make fried spring rolls, we prepare a dipping sauce: sugar and water, vinegar, garlic, chilli and lemon and then we stir together. About fillinginclude rice noodles, mushrooms, orion, carrot and minced pork or shrimp. Of course, we can miss fresh herbs.
