(Cinet)- The central province of Binh Thuan organized some activities to welcome the traditional Ramuwan festival, the biggest of its kind of the local Islamic community on June 25.
Binh Thuan province is home to 41,000 Cham ethnic people, of whom 15,000 are Muslims and the rest, Brahmins.The festival is considered as the biggest for the Islamic community in Vietnam, and the one-month celebration includes several traditional rituals such as prayer ceremonies and traditional activities like cleaning and decorating ancestors' graves.
A series of cultural and sporting activities will also be organised during the festival, which attracts thousands of local people as well as tourists.
On this occasion, provincial leaders have visited and presented gifts to representatives of the Islamic Cham Community and outstanding dignitaries, as well as local Cham people in the province. The most important part of the month-long event is a ceremony to clean and decorate the ancestral graves, then families worship at home in commemoration of their ancestors.
The Ninh Thuan People’s Committee has also instructed cities and districts to partner with the provincial Fatherland Front Central Committee and other organisations to create favourable conditions for the management of the festival.
