King Pagoda Festival

(Cinet)- King Pagoda is located at No. 1 7 Thinh Yen ( Pho Hue Ward. Hai Ba Trung district nowadays) with two religions works including Hung Khanh pagoda 9 to worship buddhist) and Thien De temple ( to worship De Thich God).

The holy De Thich has strong power to change death lo life (in conjunction with the slory Truong Ba's soul with Butcher's body) and he is the greatest chess player at the same time (he is proclaimed the King of chess of the East nations). Legend has it a that a prince of Le dynasty had chosen King Pagoda for competition center of the imperial city of Thang Long. Therefore, Thinh Yen villagers organized the festival to commemorate him and also created favorable conditions for the intellectual game.

King Pagoda festival is held annually on the dates of January 6,7,8 and 9 (Lunar calendar). After ceremonial procedures, the main activity of the festival is chess competition  that attracts famous chess players in the country (and sometimes chess players coming from Laos, Cambodia and China) and large people come to watch and support.

For years, the chess festival at King Pagoda has followed the international competition protocols. The winners are formally named and awarded by organizing committee. The name of winner who has taken the first place in three consecutive years will be enrolled on the stele of the Thien De temper.
