Dien Bien Phu – A place stored the heroic victory of Nation

(Cinet) - With over 60 thousand square kilometer area, the  Dien Bien Phu city was the home of Thai, Mong, Sila and Kinh ethnic groups living together.
Dien Bien Phu city is the provincial capital of the northwestern province of Dien Bien in Vietnam cover the entire field in the Muong Thanh valley with a length of about 20 km and a width of 6 km from Nam Rom River builds up.
The name “Muong Thanh” was extracted from letters “Muong Then” of Thai ethnic, which means "Land of God", in association with the legend of the arising of Thai people. Dien Bien was called by Thieu Tri King until 1841, among of two letters “Dien” means solid, “Bien” means borderland.

Muong Thanh field is the largest plain between mountains northwest Vietnam with the ancient tradition: "First Thanh (Muong Thanh - Dien Bien Phu), second Lo (Muong Lo - Yen Bai), followed by (Muong Than - Lai Chau) and (Muong Tac - Son La) to about 4 fertile granaries. This also is a place have the most delicious rice in northwest.

Dien Bien Phu city known for Dien Bien Phu battle in 1954 between Vietnam Armed Forces (by General Vo Nguyen Giap) and French troops (led by General Christian de Castries commander). Dien Bien Phu victory quickly turned the face of war, provided the basis for struggle diplomatic victory at the Geneva conference.

The city of Dien Bien Phu is far from Hanoi about 474km, from the border with Laos about 35km (through Tay Trang border gate). Traffic on Dien Bien Phu city is rather convenient with the development of both road and aviation: from Hanoi along Highway 6 through the Son La, reached into Tuan Giao Pha Din Pass then turn along Highway 279 in Dien Bien, along with there are 2 daily flights Hanoi to Dien Bien and vice versa.
