About Gia Lai

(Cinet)- Gia Lai is a former province of Gia Lai and Kon Tum. After 1991, it was reestablished by the name of Gia Lai province. It is famous for its diverse culture of many ethnic minorities living together.
Gia Lai borders Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen provincies in the East, Campuchia in the West, Dak Lak in the South, Kon Tum in the North.  The province covers an area 15.536,9 square kilometres, and its population was 1.322.000 peoples (according to statistic in 2009).

As the residence of ethnic minority communities, especially the Gia-Rai, Bana... Gia Lai province is known for its many traditional cultural festivals of ethnic minorities. Among the largest and best-known festivals is the buffalo stabbing festival, new dinner ceremony, rice sowing festival.

Buffalo stabbing festival belonging to the Ba Na, Gia Rai is held for the purpose of offering something to deities or those who have great contribution to the development of the village, celebrating harvests or important events of the village. The chairs are always village patriarches.
The rice sowing festival is characteristic of ethnic minorities in Gia Lai as an occassion of organizing cultural activities including: sacrificiing, worshiping ceremonies, musical performances, food festivals, ect.
Traditional celebration of the victory which stems from Bana is considered as a very important festival.
Tourism potentials
Gia Lai province has a great potential of developing tourism because it owns many beautiful natural landmarks, cultural and ethnic diversity. The primeval forests in Gia Lai is not only rich in the variety of flora and fauna but also many waterfalls, streams, lakes attractive to visitors.
Kon Ka Kinh National Park (so called Nature reserve Kon Ka Kinh) not only has a diverse flora but also plays a major role in supplying water to coffee and pepper in Gia Lai and Kon Tum.

Minh Thanh Temple is one of the most fascinating attractions in Gia Lai. This temple was designed and constructed in Madalah trend. These works of art or pictures of the temple are carved on the basis of Sanskrit Tantra.
In Gia Lai, there are tourists and other interesting attractions such as the top of Ham Rong mountain, Mang Yang Pass, rubber hills, coffee hills. River tours, elephant village tours through the forests are attractive to tourists.
