(Cinet) - The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Toursim has issued Decision No.2161/QD-BVHTTDL on allowing the Museum of Tuyen Quang province in coordination with the Institute of Archaeology to excavate the archaeological site, Nhung Pagoda.
Nhung Pagoda located in Cang Loc hamlet, Hoa Phu commune, Chiem Hoa district, Tuyen Quang province was built in the Ly Dynasty (centuries XI - XIII) and preserved until the middle of the nineteenth century. This is one of the ancient temples of the earliest date in all areas in northern mountainous provinces.
Nhung Pagoda contains a large-scale structure and retains a lot of important architectural vestiges such as architectural materials, lotus, green stone Buddha statue, household and worshiping items made by porcelain, ceramic, earthenware from the century XI - XIII to XV - XVI which have also been found in large numbers. This is a valuable historical source to help archaeologists, specialized agencies to carry out the extensive research on ancient architecture in Vietnam, understand more Buddhist and Ly - Tran Dynasties civilization in northern mountainous provinces.
On June 21st, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Toursim issued Decision No.2161/QD-BVHTTDL on allowing the Museum of Tuyen Quang province in coordination with the Institute of Archaeology to excavate the archaeological site Nhung Pagoda. Accordingly, the excavative activities last from June 25th July 30th, 2016, Excavation area: 100 m2, the leader of the excavation, Mr. Tran Anh Dung from the Institute of Archaeology.
