Phan Dang Di, the Director of “Bi, don’t be afraid”, which won a $10,000 prize at the Busan Film Festival last year, has been invited to the Cannes Film Festival this May.
Di will participate in the festival’s L’Atelier programme, which was kicked off in 2005 to promote the creation of new works.
Each year, L'Atelier selects about fifteen feature-length projects from around the world, and invites their directors to the Festival de Cannes in order to put them in contact with film professionals.
The filmmakers are selected according to the quality of their project and that of their previous films, as well as on the state of progress of their finance plans. The programme will enable them to gain access to international financing and speed up the production process.
Therefore, at Cannes Film Festival 2008, Di will have opportunities to meet with film producers, investors and distributors and introduce his projects. He will also have access to the programme of daily festival screenings, meetings and events. This is a big opportunity for a young director like Di.
Phan Dang Di is known as an independent film maker. His short films, Sen (Lotus) and Khi toi 20 (When I’m 20), attracted the attention of experts for their movie language and ideas.
The National Film Censorship Council has recently selected Di’s Go and Return film scenario to make into a feature film.
