Decision on functions, duties and rights of General Department of Tourism

(Cinet)- Prime Minister has issued a Decision No. 63/2008/QĐ-TTg dated 19th May 2008 stipulating functions, duties, rights and organizational structure of General Department of Tourism.

General Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is responsible for assisting Minister in administering the state and carrying out the state management duties and rights on tourism nationwide.

The Decision stated clearly that General Department of Tourism conducts duties and rights: Submitting to Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism and then to the Government, and Prime Minister for determining strategies, general planning of tourist development, national target program, action plans and projects, and national key works on tourism; Submitting to Minister of Culture, Sports and Toursim for approving long-term, five-year or annual plans on tourist development; Deciding regulations on preserving, restoring, developing, exploiting and using tourist resource and environment in tourist destinations and areas…

At the same time, General Department of Tourism also has a duty to lead and organize the implementation of researching, surveying, evaluating and classifying tourist market in domestic and international areas; grant, change, withdraw international travel trading license; issue, renew, change, amend and withdraw licenses for setting up branches of international tourist enterprises in Vietnam under the regulations of the law…

The organizational structure of General Department of Tourism includes Office and 06 Departments (Travel, Hotel, Tourist Market, Finance, International Cooperation, and staff organization) – being administrative organizations which help Chief of General Department carry out the state management function.. In addition, four professional units are Center for tourist Information, Institute for tourist development and research, Tourist Magazine and Tourist Newspaper. General Department of Tourism has only a Chief of General Department, but not more than three Deputy Chief of General Department.

In the past, 13^rd May, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Tran Chien Thang was appointed as Chief of General Department of Tourism.
