October 31, 2007          2020 views

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has officially approved Viet Nam as host of the 2008 Miss Asia International Competition, delegating its organisation to relevant ministries on Thursday.

A proposal submitted by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Public Security to the State Government is responsible for bringing the US-originated event to Viet Nam for the first time next year.

The annual competition brings together representatives from 56 Asian countries and territories of Asian descent. Harmony, peace and love comprise the main focal points of the event, while integrating economic and cultural features of the Asia-Pacific region.

The competition is expected to offer up an updated image of Asian women, solidifying them as strong figures with an important role to play in a globalising world. Organisers also hope the event will encourage co-operation between women throughout the region.

The Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam has been assigned to assist relevant ministries in carefully preparing for Viet Nam’s first Miss Asia event.
