“In the process of global integration process, Viet Nam needs a new, effective system for tourism,” said Institute for Social Development Studies Director Associate Professor Phan Xuan Bien, Ph.D., at a seminar entitled “Spreading Vietnamese history and culture to Ho Chi Minh City’s tourists”.

Pham Huu My, Ph.D., concluded historical and cultural monuments play an important role in tourism development in particular and in national economic development in general.
Cultural researcher Phan Cong Khanh proposed culture is embedded in every economy and vice versa, hence culture should be reified in economic events like music, movies, fashion shows and festivals.
It was also argued that HCMC is currently weak at designing tours covering both day-time activities and nightlife, yet a high percentage of tourists seek to explore the country’s culture and history at night as well, so most leave their tours at night and strike off by themselves.
Trinh Thi Hoa, Ph.D., thus proposed tourist operators work to improve services at museums, and issue books, CDs and brochures to satisfy tourists’ interests in Viet Nam’s culture and history.
