Scientific workshop “Developing sea travel culture of the Southwest Island” in Kien Giang province

(Cinet)- 29 November 2007, in Kien Giang, a scientific seminar named “Developing sea travel culture of the Southwest Island” held by Vietnam Institute of folk Art in co-ordination with Kien Giang People’s Committee.

Participants in the seminar agree that the sea value of the Southwest Island is a great potential to the development of the sea travel. This province has many geographical names associated with history and legend related to expanding and protecting the Homeland. The Western coastal area including Kien Giang and Ca Mau with over 140 islands linked with folk and history have great potentials to develop tourism. In Kien Giang, investing in ecological tourism at islands attracts domestic and foreign investors. Hai Tac archipelago (Ha Tien), Ba Lua archipelago (Kien Luong), Nam Du archipelago (Kien Hai), especially Phu Quoc island has a lot of investment projects.  Developing the sea travel and folk cultural activities in each island will protect and make local tourist products more plentiful. 

Developing the sea travel of the Southwest Island complies with widespread planning outside the Western sea of the Government.

To achieve sustainable development, the total area of coastal mangrove forest need be conserved, the degradation of sea environment need be deteriorated due to impacts of socio-economic development, coastal erosion need be overcome…
