SGGP to Host Online Chat with Film Stars

Friday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Sai Gon Giai Phong is to host an online chat session between newspaper and website readers, actor Johnny Tri Nguyen and actresses Truong Ngoc Anh and Ngo Thanh Van.

The stars will answer questions about their daily lives and the films Ao lua Ha Dong (White Silk Dress) and Dong mau anh hung (The Rebel), both nominees for the “Best Film” title at the upcoming 15th Viet Nam Film Festival to take place in the northern city of Nam Dinh over November 21-24.

Johnny Tri Nguyen, who performed in Tom-Yum-Goong, Cradle to Grave and Spiderman 2, is a Vietnamese-American TV and film actor, stunt double and martial artist.

His family emigrated from Viet Nam to Los Angeles when he was eight but they still have deep roots in the Vietnamese entertainment industry. His uncle, Nguyen Chanh Tin, is a legendary local actor, while his older brother, Charlie Nguyen, is a director.

Ngo Thanh Van and Truong Ngoc Anh are two of Viet Nam’s top models.

Van is also a renowned vocalist and made her first international appearance in the TV series Rouge, a 13-part MTV Asia series broadcast widely across Asia and Australia in 2004.

Truong Ngoc Anh is not just a local screen star, but a successful businesswoman as well.

Dong mau anh hung (The Rebel) stars Johnny Tri Nguyen and Ngo Thanh Van, was produced by HCMC-based Chanh Phuong Film Studios, directed by Vietnamese-American Charlie Nguyen and won the grand prize at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. It brought in more than VND1 billion (US$62,000) in local ticket sales over its first three days in cinemas round the country.
Truong Ngoc Anh stars in Ao Lua Ha Dong (White Silk Dress), a Phuoc Sang Film production officially selected for pre-Oscar nomination screening in the category “Best Foreign Language Film of the Year” for the 80th Annual Academy Awards next year.
Ao Lua Ha Dong won the Kodak Vision Award at the International Fukuoka Film Festival (September 14th to the 24th) in Japan, gold awards in the best feature film category at the Viet Nam Cinema Association’s 2006 Canh Dieu Vang (Golden Kite) Award, and the Audience Award at the 11th Pusan International Film Festival in Korea last year.
