Can Tho city will be home to the Mekong Delta’s first-ever national sports training complex in the near future.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Can Tho People’s Committee have agreed upon the detailed blue-print of the project, which is estimated to cost up to 2.1 trillion VND (131.25 million USD).
Covering 120 ha in Binh Thuy district, the complex will include a high-quality professional training section for trainers and athletes; a sports service section, indoor and outdoor competition sections, a water sports section, a 40,000-seat stand, a football and track-and-field ground, and other facilities.
Part of the sports sector’s development strategy through 2015 with a vision to 2020, the complex will serve as a training centre for Viet Nam ’s elite athletes to prepare for domestic and international tournaments. Currently, national players get their training at two national sports centres in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City.
